* In this edition of "Monthly Minutes", we are covering global events & market updates, update on key macro variables, key govt. policy updates & our views & recommendations post the recent monetary policy update addressed by Shravan Sreenivasula, Fund Manager.

Some of the key excerpts of this Monthly Minutes are -

1 – Usually the month of September is known for throwing surprises. This year was no different. The first surprise, though a small one, came from Fed which decided to stay put with rates due to global concerns. The second and the major surprise was from RBI which front loaded the interest rate cuts to cut the policy rates by 50 bps

2 – In terms of market performance, the Small cap index was the best performer with about 1.3% return. Nifty, the large cap index and CNX midcap indices fell 28 bps and 57 bps respectively

3 – While FIIs continued to withdraw money from the Emerging Markets(EMs), DIIs supported by being net buyers with Mutual Funds having purchased over USD 1300 mn, positive flow for 17th straight month in a row

4 – In terms of macro data points, Aug CPI & WPI were benign at 3.66% and -4.95% respectively. The monsoon season ended with a rainfall deficit of 14%. However, an increase in sowing area and first estimate of production is heartening.

5 – On the policy front, after proposing a set of solutions to resolve the PSU bank issues last month, the Govt is gearing up for a solution to resolve the funding issues of state electricity boards.
