* South Korea is set to announce its own punitive measures on North Korea this week, as the U.N. Security Council has adopted a new resolution imposing its harshest-ever sanctions on Pyongyang over nuclear and rocket tests earlier this year.

Seoul officials said that the government’s independent sanctions will include banning any vessels that have docked in North Korea during their voyage from entering South Korean ports.

The Office for Government Policy Coordination is discussing detailed measures to impose the sanctions with relevant government ministries, according to the officials.

Meanwhile, China, the North’s traditional ally, has omitted economic cooperation with North Korea from the list of its key future projects.

According to Beijing’s draft 13th five-year socio-economic development plan and the National Development and Reform Commission’s annual report released on Saturday, the Chinese government did not mention any plans for bilateral economic cooperation with Pyongyang.

Apparently infuriated by North Korea’s latest nuclear test, China has vowed to fully implement the new UNSC sanctions on the neighboring country.
