    To be honest, my school had a crappy Personal Finance class and never went over Mutual Funds. But she did say that putting all your money in just one company was the dumbest thing you can do when investing. So I made an educated guess and said Mutual Funds were safer. I got the answer right, ha!

    90% of Mutual Funds actually under perform the market after you deduct the fees that come with it, so why put your money into MF when you can just buy an index that tracks S&P 500?

    In Alberta we have in high school a course that's known as Career and Life Management (CALM). CALM talks a little about mortgage and lines of credit but at that point in your life you could really care less so as a result most of that information isn't retained or taken as seriously as it should.

    i think we should get rid of some of these unimporant classes in school that are required to graduate (i.e. Pre-calculas, biology, etc.) and replace them with finance classes

    Lisa, Republican led states won't be able to add financial literacy to their public education program since they're always cutting taxes. I'm not so sure about Democratic led states.
